A popular haunt of locals with dogs, Phoenix Park is home to both a herd of deer and the Irish president, who lives at Áras an Uachtaráin. It’s a cracker of a building from the outside, but things are even more impressive inside the National Gallery,with a huge collection of art from Ireland and around the world. There are paintings by Caravaggio, Turner and Monet, and it’s also home to the National Portrait Collection, with one new piece added every year from the Portrait Prize. You could easily spend a whole afternoon wandering between the various wings and rooms, but there are free guided tours if you’re pushed for time and want to see the highlights.
